Abuko, Bakoteh Win Daimler Championship

The 6th edition of the Daimler perpetual tournament organised by Olymafrica Centre was finally won by Abuko Upper Basic School and Bakoteh Lower Basic School on Sunday at the Serrekunda East mini stadium.
Bakoteh emerged champions after defeating Olymafrica of Serrekunda East in a post match penalty shootouts by 6.5, while in the intermediate Abuko defeated their Musa Bun Nasr by a goal to nil, a goal scored by Serign Gai just five minutes before the final whistle.
Both Bakoteh Lower Basic School and Abuko upper basic school went home with a trophy and three footballs as their prices.
Musa Bun Nasr Arabic School of Fajikunda made history for themselves in the Daimler competition after been the only Arabic school to join the competition and reach the final.
The two best players of the tournament went to Amadou Baldeh of Abuko and Serign Babou Cham of Olymafrica Centre, while leading goal scorers were Sulayman Kandeh of Bakoteh and Adama Jarjue of Olymafrica. They all went home with one football.
Speaking to the head coach of Abuko Upper Basic School, Mbye E. Cham who expressed excitement for their victory told The Daily News Sports that his boys are really young but played a brilliant football.

“My players were very determined, despite being younger than their opponents during the game,” adding that this is a history for the entire Abuko School in general. “I have spent approximately 6 years in Abuko, but this is the third trophy that the school received,” he said.
Musa Bun Nasr’s coach Lamin Camara said he had accepted the defeat in good faith, adding that in football one has to win or lose.
He went on to congratulate the school team for their wonderful performance displayed during the tournament, saying this is their first participation in Daimler event. He then went on to urge Arabic schools to join the Daimler next year.
