Amie Sillah’s Book Launch Supersedes All

africa » gambia
Wednesday, December 01, 2010

Many a book launch these days of 2010 but unique is the one launched by sister Amie Sillah on Monday 29th November at the Paradise Suite as it had first and foremost the feminine touch hence its uniqueness but over and above all that, the pomp and pageantry crowns it all to  be the best so far.
Yes, amidst traditional dancing and singing, Sister Amie had all the ingredients characteristic of a local festival hence depicting the very essence of the book itself. No need to belabor the razzmatazz and the beautiful speeches by the many such as the book reviewer Dr Siga Jagne who did justice to the theme and gave a very good synopsis of the book in toto’ and the chief launcher’s speech so enticing to warrant a rethink as she hammered home the point of pictorial translation of the book amongst many other salient points,. What was must enthusing were the very powerful speeches made by former agricultural minister Omar Amadou Jallow harping on the roles of women and the 60% composition of  our today Gambia to effect any change whilst lamenting what befalls them in time of catastrophe!
Indeed loaded statements that must exercise the minds of all and sundry! Bro Sam Sarr’s commendation of sister Amie as a wife, mother and carer par excellence speaks volumes of the matrimonial enjoyment the couple has to be emulated by all and sundry. To crown it all, the chairman of the occasion Cherno Omar Barry really excelled the episode by his oratory skills and dexterity in handling thing. Without doubt therefore the launch was excellent.
The lessons to be drawn from the launch are many and varied hence the gist of my write up thus. As I hail from the same village Boraba by virtue of my mother’s birth place Amie as my automatic sister of mine by virtue of the same descendency, must endeavour to re-launch in the hinterland in a bid to decentralize the impact! Can this be obliged?
Further more, the chairman could have availed more opportunities to allow for interventions as the likes of my humble self, Halifa Sallah of renowned repute amongst many others were abound to have spiced the episode.
Well, in spite of my endeavours to so do by writing thrice to the chair, I was left in the lurch! Amazing isn’t? If I am left in the cold in many an event I can make an impact.
Any way the consolation herein, is that I can always be heard though belated but hope that in future organizers note my potentials as a social commentator who can always add value to such educational fora to warrant parole for me not to about Halifa. Who the entire assembly must have been disappointed for not being given the parole but expectations are high that he would vent his spleen on the launch as I am doing in this piece.
Enough food for thought.
