Arrankez Wins Senior Wrestling Contest As Njawara Holds Annual ‘Dekal Chosan’

The peoples of Njawara village located in North Bank region, have held their annual Dekal Chosan (cultural revitalisation) on Saturday the 28 May in the village centre in a form of a wrestling competition, cultural dance and ethnic group exhibition by the various ethnic groups in the village.
The spectacular Dekal Chosan was graced by some members of the national sports council under the leadership of Momodou Max Jallow, Alhagie Cham of West Coast radio and villager from in and out of Njawara.
The wrestling was contested by two categories of wrestlers, the heavy weight senior wrestlers and junior wrestlers from different places in both the Gambia and the neighbouring Senegal.
In the senior category, Arrankez of Torro Bah village emerged winner of the Njawara 2011 Dekal Chosen after winning all his 12 combats. He received a cash prize of D1,500.00, Sarey Boy from Dara Lilwan emerged second and bagged a prize of D1,000,00 and the 3rd place attached with a prize of D700 goes to Balmore of Balli village.
Meanwhile, in the junior category, Modou Touray a native wrestlers of Njawara for the first time emerged victorious and he went home with a cash prize of D1,000, 00, the second prize went to Hareng Lo Sanchi Balli D700 and the 3rd prize went to Babouy of Serekunda Bartez and he received D400. 
The interesting exhibition of ethnic groups was part of the programme as many cultural groups including Wollofs, Mandinkas, Fulas among others were given the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of huge crowd of spectators.
