Abuko Upper Basic Schools’ female football team’s head coach Mbai Cham applauded the performance of his girl’s as extraordinary.

Coach Cham’s team defeated Kabafita Upper Basic School by1-0, courtesy of Mama Drammeh in added time of second half, in the inter-schools football tournament for girls on Sunday at Abuko football field.

Speaking to The Daily news sports shortly after the game, Cham said they were physically and mentally prepared ahead of the tournament.

“We were well prepared for this tournament, because we knew that we would be the host of this years’ championship, which is not easy. We focused on the game and at the same time received enough assistance from our administrators,” he said.

Abuko female team controlled the game, in terms of ball possession and beautiful play in both halves, but failed to utilise their numerous goal scoring chances.

After thanking  the organising committee for their good job, Cham said, Abuko is never left behind in any sporting activities as they always perform to expectation.

Kabafita’s assistant coach Abdoulie S .Konteh blamed the second assistant referee for his team’s defeat. “The goal we considered was an off side, but the assistant referee refused to raise the flag. My players’ performance was good, even thus female football is not much developed compared to male football in the country.”

In addition, the assistant coach said they also encountered some injuries among their players in their semi-final game.

Konteh went on to urge the organising committee to be neutral in organising such a tournament, saying a lot of unfair cases unfolded during the tournament, which should be avoided come next tournament.
