CM is now a household name at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MOBSE). This is the set up to improve the standard and quality of education in the country through monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning in schools.

The committee chooses a particular region where they meet education personnel in the region. The regional personnel report on the strengths and weaknesses at the regional level for two or more days and then meet teachers in various schools. During their period in schools, the committee members observe teachers in the classroom, checked their records, and talk with them and then give advice to them on their works. This is a good method as to institute quality education in schools.

Not to pre-empt the happenings by our education sector, which we commend for their resolve to better the sector. We wrote to commend the steadfastness of the ministry in upholding the principles of periodically having the forum and more so decentralizing it hence the CCM at Basse.

Reference to our last article, the mere fact that this year begins in the farthest region, Basse, is really poised to deliver the goods expected of our education sector. Last weekend, scores of vehicles carrying education technocrats for what could be best described as very encouraging to have a conglomeration of our brains in the sector to brain storm on the way forward for the sector to thrive.

As the write up may be too late for any suggestions to be on board, one can only proffer the many that had been discussed in our column herein.

How about a good analogy of the said articles:

1. The Flexible calendar-Modification

2. The Nomenclatures in our sector-Redefine

3. Introduction of skills in the Basic Cycle of our sector

4. Teacher motivation and retention

5. The Education Bantaba – Reference to our earlier article

6. Introduction of local languages in our schools

7. The need to incorporate sports and Physical Education in the main stream of our Education pursuits-A healthy mind is found in a healthy body.

8. Exam performance and relevance analogy

9. Infrastructural Development in the sector

10. An over view of the sector – Rebrand.

These and others that are unlisted are among the major shortcomings which the ministry needs to readjust. So many of our graduates left the field and others are demotivated if not marginalized and need to be redressed rather than going to CCM with fleet of vehicles and spending nights in resorts just to increase expenditures of the ministry.

The methodology of CCM need to be looked at as the powerful delegation scares the already weak ones and throws panic in others. The weak performance of some teachers in the presence of committee members is the way most perceived the entire scheme. A better and most professional approach is required.

Well the onus is on the attendants to rethink these for the next imminent one if all cannot be taken on board.

Finally, it is envisaged that the authorities in the sector will ponder over these to better the sector. CAN WE BRACE UP FOR THIS? THEN WE MUST BEGIN NOW.
