Mr Madi MK Ceesay, the publisher of The Daily Newspaper, a tri-weekly Gambian newspaper yesterday left for South Africa to take part in a media regulatory conference that seeks to enrich the debate on media rights and regulations as well as responsibilities of Africa’s media.
Being jointly hosted by South African National Editor’s Forum and the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) school of journalism, the two day gathering will bring together representatives from 14 African countries, including governments, editors, regulators and civil society as well as the British Press Complaints Commission, and a Canadian Information and Privacy Commissioner.
In an interview prior to his departure, Mr Ceesay said the interactions and sharing of knowledge with experts drawn from across the continent and beyond on the theme will have a great impact on the profession.
He promised to share lessons to be learned with colleagues back home.
Mr Ceesay’s trip is sponsored by the British High Commission in Banjul. The meeting kicks off March 9 and Mr Ceesay is due here March 13.
