Darboe at Police Over ‘Tax Payment’![]() UDP leader Darboe Monday, June 11, 2012 Darboe was uncertain why the police want to question him, but equally suspected that it is in relation to the hunt for suspected tax evaders. The Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, on Wednesday vowed to prosecute anyone found guilty of tax evasion. This was after a government-sanctioned probe into tax evasion reported a loss of over two billion dalasi as taxes owed to government by defaulters of tax payment, which includes private lawyers, accountants and institutions. In December last year, Darboe, together with three other prominent lawyers, were among the first to appear before the tax inquiry commission, which submitted its report to President Jammeh on Wednesday. Already, 13 people, including former boss of Gambia Revenue Authority, are facing charges in connection to the findings of the commission at the magistrates’ court in Banjul. | Related Topics |
