Darsilami Day Care Center, an early childhood development centre (ECD) in collaboration with Saamasang Federation, a community based organisation (CBO) Wednesday March 28, trained over forty parents on the production of hand-made toys.
Speaking at the event held at the Child-Fund The Gambia-funded Darsilami Day Care Centre, Mr Fakebba Jatta, head teacher of the school, said educational toys are essential in improving quality education at the nursery level.
“Reading books and rhyme books as well as the  toys created by their own parents will in no doubt boost the standards of the children,” he said.
“It will also contribute a lot in the development of early childhood development of kids and for them to discover skills for them.’’
He told the gathering that the non sponsorship programme (NSP) is designed to contribute to enhancing early grade reading (EGR) and learning in three ECD centres within Saamasang Federation namely Darsilami ECD Centre, Penyem ECD Centre and Women’s Federation Nursery School.
Alieu Mendy Programme Development Officer, Musukebba Jarju facilitator from Darsilami, Lamin Sambou, Yafatou Drammeh, Jainaba Sowe, Mariama Manneh, Moses Mendy and Bintou Saify chairperson of the school committee made similar remarks. Similar training was held at Brikama and Penyem.
