The Gambia Wrestling Association on Wednesday left the country via Dakar to attend the 10th ECOWAS traditional wrestling championship to be held in Niger from the 19th to the 22nd of this month.
Speaking to reporters shortly before their departure, the head of the Gambian delegation, Mommodou Max Jallow expressed delight for ministry of youth and sports for giving him the chance once again to lead the delegation that will be hoping to make history once again in Libya.
It could be recalled that the Gambian wrestling team that participated in the 9th edition of the ECOWAS championship in June last year held in Dakar, came out third position winning bronze medal for the country for the first time.
According to Max Jallow, the ECOWAS wrestling association has provided six air tickets to the six wrestlers that are to participate and the ministry of youth and sports and the wrestling federation will provide the rest.
My Jallow called on Gambians to pray for the team, as wrestling is our own local sport, which has been in the country since time immemorial.
