Head Teachers’ Skills Enhanced on M&EFriday, April 27, 2012 Head teachers drawn from various lower and upper basic and senior secondary schools in provincial-Upper River Region of The Gambia, on Sunday 22 April, completed intensive practical training on monitoring and evaluation. The day’s training was held at the Regional Education Directorate at Basse, the administrative centre of URR. In an interview, Mr Alpha Camara said “Monitoring and evaluation is not a completely new concept in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. “ He also said that “for the purpose of enhancing performance and to ensure economic and judicious use of resources, the need to establish an effective monitoring and evaluation system is needed. It is important for tracking progress in accordance with policy objectives and targets. ” Mr Camara underscored the significance of the training, noting that it will go a long way towards the strengthening of the skills of the principals in monitoring and evaluation to achieve quality education.
