The false information case against a former Daily Observer newspaper deputy editor, Mr Nanama Keita, who doubled as head of sports desk, is expected to resume at the magistrates’ court in Banjul on September 12, 2011.

Last Thursday, the prosecution was expected to call more witnesses, but he was unavailable when the matter resumed.

Editor Keita’s lawyer, Neneh Cham however informed the court that the prosecuting police officer, superintendent Joof had notified her that he will not be available for two scheduled dates - last Thursday and Friday.

Mr Nanama Keita’s engagement at the pro-government newspaper was terminated earlier this year with no stated reason. He is undergoing trial on a false information charge for claiming, among others, ‘wrongful dismissal’ by the Observer Company in a petition he sent to the Office of the President following his dismissal.

Journalist Keita however denied any wrongdoing.

Already, two state witnesses have testified against him - Mr Assan Sallah, a news editor and Alagie Jobe, the current head of editorial desk at The Gambia’s first daily newspaper.
