Rreport entitled Volunteer Mapping Exercise, 2010 has revealed that Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), has the highest number of volunteers with 44,933.

According to the report, the large number of volunteers in KMC is attributable to the large concentration of civil society organisations (NGOs, CBOs among others) in the Kanifing Municipality as out of the 183 institutions covered during the survey; about 54 percent were located in KMC.

This is followed by North Bank Region with 10,829 volunteers. Banjul accounted for the lowest number of volunteers totaling 126.

Other than Banjul where the number of volunteers for both sexes is equal, female accounted for the highest number of volunteers in all the regions, the report reveals.

According to the report, the total number of non-Gambian volunteers was 283 and there were more non-Gambian male than female volunteers (107 compared to 176).

The highest number of non-Gambian volunteers were found in Kanifing (229) followed by North Bank Region with 48.

Regions where none of the organizations reported to work with non-Gambians are Lower River Region (LRR, Central River Region (CRR) and Upper River Region (URR), the report concludes.
