KNF, KEYCDA 3rd JA Company of the Year Competition Held

aira Nyining Federation (KNF), affiliated to Child Fund The Gambia

based in Farabanta Village, in Kombo East, and the Kombo East Youth and

Children Development Alliance (KEYCDA) Thursday held the third edition

of the Junior Achievement (JA) Company of the Year competition at the

Kuloro Skills Center.

The Junior Achievement (JA) programmes help prepare young people for

the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively

manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more

robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.

Its unique approach allows volunteers from the community to deliver

their curriculum while sharing their experiences with students.

The JA competition is an annual celebration of the achievements of JA

Company students across West Coast Region and Kombo East in

particular.

At this event, JA Companies proudly presented the results of

the enterprise and learning experience.

During the competition, JA Companies appeared before a panel of

independent judges who determined company performance against the

competition criteria, as compared with other JA Companies at each stage

of the competition process.

The JA Company of the Year competition is

not only simply a business competition for young people, but it has a

wider goal that targets to balance the business achievements of each

team as a whole with individual personal development.

At the end of the competition, Debong Suma Youth Enterprise emerged

winner while Teppereh Yessoh General Merchandise came out Second best

Company of the year position.KPF Business Enterprise came third.

Teppereh Yessoh General Merchandise took the most innovative product

while KPF Business Enterprise took the most environmentally- Friendly

Product prize.

The most financially successful company went to

Teppereh Yessoh General Merchandise whiles Nyodema Enterprise came as the best

Marketing Team while the CEO of the Year went to Musa Darboe of Debong

Sumaa Youth Enterprise.

Speaking at the event, Ebrima Sanneh, Manager of Kaira Nyining

Federation, told the gathering that his Federation had strived very

hard over the past years to prepare the young people of Kombo East to

attain their full potentials and to selflessly contribute to the

development of their communities.

Speaking earlier, the Child and Youth officer of Kaira Nyining

Federation, Lamin Mokende Darboe, said during the competition, JA Company

members must demonstrate that they understood how and why the company

performed as it did. He told the competing companies that judges would

be looking for evidence of innovation and the application of new ideas

in all aspects of running the company.

The chairperson of the West Coast Region Youth Committee, Abubacarr Dembo Kambi,

inspired the young people to value the potential business and skillsin the socio-economic development of the communities and individuals.

For his part, Abdoulie Badjie, the representative of the National

Association of Cooperative Credit Union of The Gambia (NACCUG) for

West Coast Region, praised the extraordinary stance of the young people

of the district, saying they are youths who are worthy of emulation.
