Kotu Senior Secondary School last weekend held a graduation ceremony for 120 grade 12 students at the school premises in Kotu.
Speaking at the ceremony, the principal of the school Mr Lamin A.K Sanyang commended the donors, especially Golf School of UK whose support he said made remarkable development in the school.
Sanyang said Golf School has given his school direct attention.
“Golf School has refurbished six classrooms at the boys’ section and also renovated girls’ toilets with modern sanitary facilities. They also painted six classrooms ceiling fans, and mosquito nets,” he added.
He lamented that their benevolent donors also recently donated science equipment to the lab and flat screen computers in their effort to enhance the capacity of the school.
The principal said the next support of the donors would be towards the construction of the assembly hall which the school is in dire need of.
On the academic performance, the principal said the school over the years have registered landmark achievement.  In the last two years, he said they have overcome several academic challenges.
Sanyang expressed his pride for two outstanding female students of his school, Ms Fatou Lowe and Ms Isatou Loum who scored nine credits each in the 2010 WASSCE.
He raised concern about the need for quality teachers as necessity to power the school’s effort towards academic excellence.
Discipline and Youth
The guest speaker at the ceremony asked if the cancer worm of indiscipline should be left to grow or to plug it out and start to restore our good values.
He told students that the most effective weapons to fight indiscipline is to embrace discipline in totality.
Mr Ndow said it is better to discipline oneself than to win thousand battles.
“Behave; the victory you win is yours. It can’t be taken from you, not by even an angel or demon,” he told the students.
Wishing the graduating students well into what he described as the University of Life, he added that human beings have no control over luck but have the capacity to discipline themselves which is the key to success.
