A brilliant effort from Modou Sarr, in the 72 minutes of the game was enough for the Telecom boys Gamtel FC to overcome their Senegalese opponents Casa Sports in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation contest held at the Serrekunda East football field on Sunday.
Modou Sarr scored the winning goal for Gamtel after a poor first half ended goalless, Gamtel’s goal came through a counter attack in which Sarja Jarjusey placed a fine pass to the goal scorer Modou Sarr to shot pass the Casa Sports tall keeper.
The visitors got chances of their own but could not break the dead lock, the closest effort came from Aloise Thiaw in the 26 minutes of the game but his shot went wide over the bar.
The first half was a tough encounter, in terms of counter attacks and set-pieces but few goal scoring chances were created by both sides.
The second half of the game was better, both teams came with hopes that they are going to be victorious but Gamtel were the happy team at the end of the regular time.
The Gambia Football Association (GFA) FA and Super Cup champions and also WAFU finalist Gamtel FC and their tactician Tapha Manneh will travel to Nziganzhor for the second leg on the 2nd March.
