New Health Center for Buffer Zone

Monday, October 03, 2011
Dr.  Kristin Menzel, a 48 year old surgeon who recently sponsored a newly equipped health center at the Tallinding Buffer Zone, told to The Daily News that her focus in The Gambia is to contribute to the health sector of the country by helping Gambians to achieve better health care services.
Dr. Menzel owns a surgical station at Brandenburg in Germany.
“This was all possible with the persuasion and full determination of a Gambian youth, Sheikh Tijan Touray, who convinced me to establish the health center in this area, so as to help the community at a tune of two million dalasis,” she said.
However, she said her health center faces lot of hurdles to import medical drugs into the country and most unfortunately, the poor electricity supplies.  But she was quick to commend both The Ministry of Health and Mayor Yankuba Kolley.
“I would like to thank the community of Buffer Zone and the Gambian people at large for their help and support in the establishment of this project and I expect them to take full ownership of the center,” she said.
