Wednesday, October 05, 2011
The forum of Speakers and Clerks of the National Youth Parliament recently elected Honorable Aminata Hydara, the clerk of the NYP as the 5th Speaker of the National Youth Parliament following the resignation of Honorable Baboucarr Mbye Saidy last month.
Hon. Hydara will lead the NYP until March 2012 when the National Youth Parliament will hold their General Assembly.
The forum also put up a Vote of No Confident against the NYP’s Deputy Speaker Hon Lamin K Saidy.
Hon. Aminata Hydara became a member of the National Youth Parliament as a Representative of Kombo North in the West Coast Region Youth Parliament in 2004. She rose to the rank of the Deputy Speaker of West Coast Region Youth Parliament in 2006 and finally Regional Speaker of the West Coast Youth Parliament in February 2009.
Ms. Hydara in February 2011 was elected as the National Clerk and now the National Speaker of the National Youth Parliament.
Hon. Hydara has previously served in various capacities in the Gambia’s youth fraternity. She is a determined, dynamic and progressive youth leader.
Upon her election, Hon. Aminata Hydara Promised to serve the National Youth Parliament of the Gambia to the best of her ability. She noted that there has never been a time when the young people of the Gambia needs a National Youth Parliament than now. She called on the stakeholders to support the NYP in its drive to empower and enhance the participation of the young people in national development. She also thanks the Speakers and Clerks for the trust and confident bestowed on her in entrusting her with the new Leadership. The NYP, she said requires commitment and sacrifice in order to offer the services needed by the young people.
The National Youth Parliament of the Gambia was established in March 2002 as a youth project on reproductive health by RAID-The Gambia with funding from the United Nations Population Fund. The NYP was previously led by Hon Mbye Bittaye, Hon Lamin F Bojang, Hon Maimuna Sarr and Babucarr Mbye Saidy as Speakers from formation.
Other faces in the new leadership include, Fatoumata Mboge as National Clerk, Abdou Jatta as the Finance Officer whilst the position of the Deputy Speaker and Deputy Clerk remains vacant.
