Nigerian Technical Aid Corps in GambiaWednesday, November 02, 2011 As part of the technical harmony between the government of The Gambia and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a team of 16 Nigerian technical aid corps volunteers who are to be deployed in the education sector of The Gambia have arrived in town to get down to business. In a way of formally welcoming the guest to the smiling coast of Africa, a short ceremony was held on their behalf at the Nigerian High Commission in New Town, Bakau Thursday. Faruk Yahaya, charge de affairs at the high commission described the relationship between The Gambia and Nigeria as cordial. “It is in this regards that you people are here today,” he told them. He therefore called on the newcomers to feel at home and always observe the laws of the land. Mr. Yahaya further said that the fruitful relationship between the two countries will grow from strength to strength for the mutual benefits of both nations. J.M Balarabe, deputy director technical aid corps volunteers informed the new corps men and women to live up to expectations. “A lot of your countrymen are here in The Gambia working in different sectors,” he said. Bakary Ceesay, principal officer human resources at the Ministry of Basic Education on behalf of his ministry and the government of The Gambia, finally welcomed the 16 member delegates to the smiling coast of West Africa. Meanwhile, the 16 teachers three of whom are lecturers will be deployed across senior secondary schools in the country, while the three lecturers will be handed over to the ministry of higher education for onward deployment to one of the higher institutions of learning in the country.
