Teams from Serekunda East and West are currently participating in a memorial football tournament of the late Abdoulie Njie at the Serekunda School football field. The tournament, which is organised by the Serekunda East program officer, Mustapha Drammeh, brings together teams from the two Nawettan regions to compete in the memorial tournament in memory of the late Nguma FC player and team captain, the late Abdoulie Njie. The former Nguma team captain passed away Friday 16th June 2010; during his team outing in a friendly against first division side Real de Banjul at the independence stadium, just minutes after putting his side level. Late Abdoulie Njie’s death came as a big shock to both fans and players, as his goal celebration turned tragic. The Mustapha Drammeh-sponsored memorial tournament kicked off on the 27th June. And Nguma are currently leading with 5 points after three games. While Canon are on second position with 4 points after three games, T.K Snookers 3 points after two games, Rangers FC 2 points after three games, Pencha BI and Cambel Town sit on last position with one point each. The tournament will continue today with T.K Snookers locking horns with Pencha BI, while on Saturday Canon entertains Cambel town. Both games will play at the same venue.
