‘Ocean Bay Manager’s Drug Saga is a Set Up’Sunday, July 10, 2011 Lawyer Kebba Sanyang on Saturday revealed that the illicit drugs allegedly found in the possession of the general manager of Ocean Bay Hotel were planted in his vehicle by some people with an intention to mess up his client. Sanyang said the anti-narcotics officers who conducted the raid are aware of the arrangements and played by the game. The defense counsel arrived at that conclusion after putting the prime state witness under the microscope, when the case resumed at the magistrate’s court in Banjul on Sunday. Mr Juergen Odenwald was arrested May 23 at Cape Point Hotel in Bakau. He is facing a charge of drug peddling, but pleaded not guilty. “I am putting it to you that when Buba Nyassi went to wash the car, that was where the set up started; you met this Mr Nyassi and told him that you will be coming there to effect the arrest and thereby you arrive at the hotel 30 minutes after Buba Nyassi was done with the car,” lawyer Sanyang challenged. Mr Njaga O. Jatta, the anti-narcotic officer who led the team that arrested the hotel manager denied the accusation. But lawyer Sanyang did no waiver: “I am putting it to you that the reason why you did not record those people is that you cleared them and your focus was on this man, the Manager.” Again, the witness denied the accusation. Sanyang charged further: “I am also putting it to you that all this charges against this man is false and are masterminded by you just to put him in trouble.” And again the witness replied: “That is not true.” He however admitted that M. Nyassi, who was the last person to use the car before the arrest was cleared of. The others arrested in connection were as well cleared of. Author: Binta Bah |
