PAD Holds Seminar on NationalismFriday, May 04, 2012 The Platform for Awareness and Development (PAD), a product of young dynamic youth, that cuts across the length and breadth of the country, on Tuesday April 24th, held a seminar on the theme ‘’Nationalism and Development’’ at the auditorium room of The Gambia College in Brikama. Halifa Sallah, guest speaker of the event, expounded on issues concerning development in Africa, the neo-colonialism era and issues hindering development on the African continent. “The theme is befitting, as it entails how one can participate in the development of the country. Good governance should be respected by the leadership in Africa, as there can be no meaningful development in the absence of good governance,’’ he said. Sallah further opined that it is the responsibility of the young people to participate in issues concerning development in Africa and The Gambia in particular, noting, that this will help boost the morale of the young people. “A collective effort will promote the welfare of young people as well as the theme of the event.’’ Gibairu Janneh, journalist, called on the young population to work for the development of Africa, emphasizing that the development of Africa and The Gambia lies entirely in the hands of the young people. He urged them to promote oneness and unity in order to achieve their aims. Abdoulie Jabang, Secretary General of PAD said “the youth based association is geared towards promoting the advancement of education and youth participation towards national development. PAD has the sole aim of raising awareness on the dangers of drugs, illegal migration, climate change and education,’’ he said. He noted that the association is also working to launch its first ever newsletter that would feature the association’s activities in relation to development issues, saying, “it is the wishes of the members to contribute to the development of the country.” Author: Alhagie Ceesay | Related Topics |
