Peace Ambassadors -The Gambia (PAG) an international organization focusing on youth and peace will conduct nationwide youth leadership training in the Easter holidays at the Abuko Upper Basic School in the Kanifing Municipality.
PAG is the new name given to the Youth Ambassadors of Peace, an internationally recognized organization focusing on youth and peace. It was established in The Gambia on May 17th 2001.
According to the Programme Coordinator Abdou Boye, in refocusing and redirecting its programme, the key intervention areas of the organization shall include (but will not be limited) to six thematic areas i.e. Governance, Health, Education, Agriculture, Children and Youth Empowerment and Gender.
“The Children and Youth Empowerment programme aspires to develop the creative and leadership potential of people while ensuring their maximum participation in national and international development and to promote international partnership in the conflict prevention and peace building. The organization focuses on the development of the human mind.” Hence we challenge ourselves as an organization to organize a NATIONAL Leadership Training for all interested Youth Organization and individual youths”, said Boye.
As presented in this concept, Boye stated that such brilliant ideas call for the participation of all and sundry, youth and youth leaders in The Gambia.
According to him, the activities will include the National Youth Leadership for a ten day intensive training which shall be organized for fifty youths in order to help them understand and be able to perform very good leadership duties and also acquire leadership skills. He said monitoring and Evaluation follow up is another component which will develop a strategic monitoring and evaluation mechanism to monitor and be implemented accordingly. He stated that before they (trainees) are certified they most do an activity (feedback) to their respective organization or community.
A checklist will be developed which will be used to measure the objectives against the outputs. A record of activities conducted and the number of people attended shall be kept as well as a comprehensive action plan for youth leaders, mutual respect and understanding developed among youth leaders/organizations.
Peace Ambassadors -The Gambia shall run the programme with oversight support from a technical organization committee.
