Re-Bondali Conspires Against Parliamentarian

Dear editor

In reference to the above caption in your news paper dated Monday 30th July, 2012, I write to reliably inform you that Hon Matar Kujabi is not only our NAM, but also a nephew too.
The fact of the matter is that the villagers were reacting to his dishonourable, damaging and frustrating report about the communities that voted him into office, instead of conspiring against him.
The electorate of Foni Bondali District have confidence in him. This is why they voted for him. What he should have recommended to the Ministry of Health is to upgrade the health post and improve the conditions and services provided at that level. This could be achieved if he used his good office to lobby for competent staff, and ensuring that all essential drugs and materials are readily available at all times. This is at least what is expected of him as a responsible and honourable NAM.
Closing Bondali Health post, as he proposed to the Ministry of Health, is not inconformity with the concept of Primary Health Care, which is to bring health care to the door step of the people.
This concept is the base of the health system of The Gambia since the early seventies. Therefore, his proposal is a very mad one, betrayed and eroded our confidence bestowed on him as our NAM.
Above all, there is no iota of truth in his report that Mr Sainey Mendy of all people is not delivering. It is not true, too, that there are no drugs in the Health Post. Supposed a patient reported sick in a health facility and a particular drug prescribed is not available, does this mean that there are no drugs in that facility at all? A thousand times no!
His report was based on pure imagination, envy and personal grievances and other reasons simply best known to him.
HON NAM, please be informed that as our elders often say and I quote: “If you can’t add water to the water melon, please leave the one you find in it.”
The villagers have no cause to conspire against you, but they have to defend the integrity and welfare of the community that you are empowered to serve in the positive way, and not otherwise.
A NAM is a very respectable and honourable position and you should therefore desist from circulating such dishonourable stories. If you don’t know, for God’s sake, please ask!
