Sabackh Sanjal Inter-Village Nawettan Set to CommenceFriday, August 17, 2012 After a successful football tournament organised by the
Sabackh Sanjal football development committee last year, the committee is on
the verge of commencing the second edition of its inter-village football
competition. The tournament seeks to develop football in that area, while most talented players can be scouted by the country’s football governing body, GFA, for their national teams’ selection. The competition, which will see villages to their peak in striving to grab the accolade, is starts on the 23rd August 2012 at Yayal Bah football field between Kunjo and Challal villages. So far, according to Abdou Secka, the chairman of the committee, villages are coming on board to have their teams registered. “We have seven teams already registered and more are expected to show up,” he told this paper. “All interested villages are urged to come and participate in the tournament with a registration fee of D800. Preparations are in high gear, all we want is cooperation from all participating teams, as we are looking for a peaceful and successful competition,” Secka added. For Mod M. Ceesay, secretary general of the committee, who don’t condone indiscipline in any form, the committee will not compromise its rules. He warned that any team found guilty of violating the committee’s rules would be mercilessly dealt with The registration fee, which was D300 last year is increased to D800 by a meeting, which involved villages’ representatives and committee members at meeting center Dibba Kunda Village. It could be recalled that Kunjo Village emerged victorious in last year’s 11-village competition, after defeating Sabackh Village is spot kicks, in the wake of a stalemate in regular playing time at Dibba Kunda playing ground.
