Essa Sambou, head coach of Brikama United has expressed optimism that his side could bag a respectable victory on Saturday when they host their Senegalese opponents, US Ouakam at the Box Bar mini stadium in the first leg of CAF club championship.
Sambou, whose team won only one game so far in the league after six matches is hoping that his players will overcome their shortcomings in the GFA premier league this season come Saturday match against Ouakam.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily News Sports Sambou said his team is ready to make history by beating US Ouakam and progress to the next round of the CAF championship.
Sambou however pointed out that most of his players are nursing injuries while others are fighting for match fitness ahead of the Ouakam game on Saturday.
Among the unfit players is vice Captain Modou Jallow who told this reporter that he was suffering from stomach pain, though getting better.
“We have learnt from our mistakes against Cassa Sports in which we played a poor first half and an incredible encounter despite losing 2-1 in the friendly game we played.
“So be rest assured come Saturday we will make every Gambian happy and for sure we are looking ahead to go over Ouakam and proceed to the next round.
“We started this season poorly, but with the help of God it will not reflect come Saturday,” he said.
For Vice Captain Modou Jallow, the mood in their camp is just brilliant, noting that they are going to make their fans happy.
Jallow said they have already played friendly games with their Senegalese opponent and at the same time they have been watching Ouakam play on TV in the Senegalese super cup against Cassa Sports.
Modou Jallow urged his fans to rally behind the team and helps them achieve their objectives.
