The fourth edition of the summer youth camp organized by the scholar Athletes for Change (SAC) has ended on Monday at the Independence Stadium’s Friendship Hostel in Bakau.
The camp was organized for student’s ages 10 to 17 years and the theme of this year’s camp was “hazards of life”. The camp included a seminar for P.E teachers, coaches and regional sports coordinators based on FIBA refereeing rules and regulations.
The camp, which attracted more than one hundred students from various schools in the country availed the students with the opportunity to learn the modern techniques, rules and regulations of basketball. Speaking to this reporter shortly after the camp, Andrew Dacosta, the vice president of the scholar athletes for change [SAC] said this is part of the SAC’s efforts to promote school sports in the country.
Andrew further stressed the significance of sports in the schools saying education cannot go in the absence of sports. He urged the trained P.E teachers to make best use of the knowledge gained from the camp and disseminate the information to other people who were not privileged to attend the camp.
For her part, Ramatoulie Mboob, a participant from St Therese’s upper basic school applauded the SAC board for the initiative. She expressed optimism that the knowledge gained will go a long in helping her as far as basketball is concern. Ramatoulie further called on her colleagues to effectively utilize the new things acquired from the camp.
