The defending champions of the zonal Serrekunda East beat Brikama zonal team last weekend by 3-1 at the east playing ground during a warm up game ahead of December zonal competition.
Both teams are in preparation for this year’s zonal contest now dubbed the GFA super Nawettan competition, in which Serrekunda East were grouped with Banjul, Manjai, Gunjur, Serrekunda Central while Brikama are also grouped with Sukuta, Lamin, Barra, Essau and Mayamba (BEM) and Serrekunda West.
Both teams are preparing to know their strength and weakness in other for them to have strong team and also select the best players among all.
“We started training last week and many of my players are not fit because they missed training after their teams were knocked out of the Nawettan,” said Lamin Jammeh, the head coach of Serrekunda East football team.
“Our game against Brikama was fair as every player was trying to show his strength in the field of play, we have lot of players in the team and each of them is fighting for a position in the first team. As defending champions, it is not going to be easy for us because there is no under dogs in this year’s race,” he added.
“It was not a bad game even thus we lost, we lost seven of our key players due to the ongoing Nawettan in Brikama and we were compelled to call on new players to know how good they are,” Benjamin the assistance coach of Brikama Zonal team said.
“With the caliber of players we have in our team I’m very optimistic that Brikama Zonal team is going for something. From here we will go back to the drawing board to correct our mistakes that we encountered here,” he said.
“I think we are in the difficult group so far this year, if you look at our group we are in the toughest group.”
He said they have not start regular training   due to the unfinished Brikama Nawettan competition.
