The ambassador of the republic of China on Taiwan, Dr Richard Shih has presented a cheque of one million dalasis to the National Federation of Gambian Women (NFGW) last Friday.
The cheque presented on behalf of the women of Taiwan to the Vice-President and Minister of Women Affairs, Dr Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy, at her office in Banjul is geared enabling government and the NFGW continues to provide meaningful support to women’s groups in the country.
Ambassador Dr Richard Shih, in presenting the cheque said the gesture came as a result of a visit to the country by five Taiwanese female parliamentarians, who took part in the July 22nd celebration in 2010. “The money is meant to empower women economically and to promote their rights,” he says.
Upon receiving the cheque, Vice-President Njie-Saidy also felicitated the Taiwanese women groups for the gesture, describing it as timely intervention.

Also speaking at the presentation Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Fatou Mbye, and chairperson of the National Women’s Council, commended their Taiwanese counterpart, noting that supporting the womenfolk means helping the entire nation.
