Magistrate Fatou Lily Drammeh of Kanifing on Friday presided over the case of a landlord alleged to have stolen over D46, 000 from a tenant residing in his compound at Latri kunda German.
The court was informed that Mr Dephon Rilley on May 1, 2011 broke into Patrick Umeh’s house where he stole $1, 300, €170, D2, 000, 3 bags valued at D1, 050 and 8 pairs of covered shoe valued at D2, 000  - totaled D46, 000.
Mr Rilley, however, pleaded not guilty to the two counts - house breaking and stealing.
But Patrick Umeh, a businessman with no legally registered business insisted that Mr Rilley did break into his house.
“I came from church and found the door to my house broken down,” he told the court in his testimony.
“I was told that the landlord did it. And I later discovered that my money and other items were stolen.”
Umeh said, he has been residing in the house for 2 years, but he was never noticed to vacate.
Lawyer Awa Ceesay Sabally is the defense counsel for Mr Rilley.

The trial resumes June 2, 2011.
