The Gambia Cadet Team Leaves For Italy Invitational Tourney

Following a successful bilateral technical arrangement between The Gambia Football Association and its Italian counterparts which gave birth to the acquisition of assistant coach Luciano Mancini, the Gambia U-19 team will finally participate in the international football tournament to be held in Umbria, Italy.

This development came after the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Gambia Football Association formalised the participation of the U-19 team in the invitational tournament in Umbria, Italy  following the request by the Amateur Football Association of Italy.

The twenty seven man team headed by Mr. Mambanyick Njie, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports leaves Banjul on Friday May 4th 2012  to take part in the Umbria tournament. They will be among five other countries viz: Romania, San Marino, Slovenia, English FA and Italy.

Mr. Cherno Touray, chairman of the GFA Technical Committee and member of the Normalisation will be at hand to support and give technical advise to Coach Peter Bonu Johnson and  his assistant, Luciano Mancini.

Six nation international invitational tournament will take place in Umbria, Italy from the 6th to  12th May 2012.

Six teams divided into two groups with three teams will be the match system. The draw of the summer international football jamboree will be conducted on Saturday May 5th 2012 by the Umbria Amateur League.

The main thrust of the tournament amongst others is to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between The Gambia Football Association, Ministry of Youth and Sports and their Italian counterparts as well as to expose and market the Gambian players to the international market.
