The Jangangbureh Festival in the offing What should be in Place? Defector

In retrospect in 1983, the Janjanbureh elders in the person of Alhajie Junking Jorbateh, Alh. Kebba Sidebeh, Alh Sariang Marong and Challow Mamburay, got together as aldermen to devise the Janjanbureh declaration to revive, reactivate and revitalise our culture with an eye to bringing in harmony, unity for  purpose and peaceful co-existence hence the birth of the festival that year.
Older readers can recall my article on this in the then journals and reminisced each year, the event is about to unfold to remind all and sundry especially the organisers to soberly reflect on the declaration.
This year round getting to thirty years since the first was held, I want to take projected BIRD EYE view of the episode hence a good analogy to protect what is aimed at. First and foremost, the event was calculated to bring the desired peace, harmony and unity for the purpose that we all yearn for hence the revival of our culture is  sure  a step towards that but also are we up to expectation in this regard?
This is the vexed question that I endeavour to answer hereby proffering suggestions to enhance it.
Yes, in the first edition I was the defector General Secretary then based at the local end as a school headmaster at home nearby to spear head operations and so successful was the episode that the vice president of the republic then Bakary B. Daboe promised that government will take the episode on board to fully sponsor it.
Unfortunately, we the Janjangburyans never followed up on that pledge year after year that it was held as most were only epicureans only interested in the merry making activities.
However in 2003 after twenty years, I took the bull by the horn to write an article to remind all that triggered the Banjul based committee to be enticed to solicit my services as secretary to champion that edition. Thank God with my foresight and reminiscent of that pledge I approached government through Yankuba Touray then minister of tourism and culture to solicit support.
As if things would fall on place, H.E, Professor, Dr. Alh Yahya AJJ Jammeh was in the fore front of organising such as Kanilai, Roots and others to get the necessary blessings for government to come into fully support of the episode. The delegation  to and from Janjanbureh  to meet and plan the festival, where fully sponsored by government and  the high powered delegation led by Yankuba Touray himself spoke volumes of the success of that year’s festival.
As every successful  endeavor also has its own  shortfalls, I fell apart with usurpers of that organisation only to be  relieved  of my position for fear of the rate of activism I was on to get the episode on the map coupled with some ulterior motives of some sinister ones who only wanted to down me hitherto.
Any way, as my resolution for this year is to bury the hatchet and come to terms with all and sundry just to protect the town, regional and national agenda of development, I am swallowing all my pride, vindication and veracity to observe a truce or ceasefire in order to get this year’s edition to be the most successful by government’s involvement.
Therefore, what must be in place is to build on my success episode of the 30th December 2011, when I initiated my kids to coincide with the adoption of my humble self as honorary father by the Fulladu women’s Kafo and the Vice President Aja Isatou Njie Saidy as honorary grand mother amongst others at which event, the permanent secretary, office of the Vice President representing HER Excellency the Vice President made a powerful speech to reiterate the essence of culture and eliciting Janjanburayans to write to the Vice President Aja Isatou Njie Saidy for government’s support. The auspicious attendance of my episode by the delegation from HER Excellency  the Vice President can now spur the Janjanburayans to come together to formulate a seasoned committee to ensure the success of this year’s festival.
Can this be? Well if all indulge in my resolution the sky is the limit as to what can be achieved for this year and for prosperity in posterity
Therefore, what must now happen is for Janjangbuyans to engage each other candidly to plan for that.
I hope there is food for thought here. As my first article for the New Year I hope all will take note of my counsel and indulge into let by-gone be by-gone to cater for the needs of all for prosperous 2012
