Dear Editor

Iwas shocked and saddened by local and international news reports  on the crash of the Dana Airline in Lagaos Nigeria on Sunday 04 June 2012 that claimed so many lives. I can’t help but take a break from my current film set to express my sincere condolence to the bereaved Jagana family, friends, The Gambia Government and ex-Gambia Ports Authority colleagues of Ba Ibrahima D.K Jagana. This year 2012 is indeed moving strange. First I lost Ebrima Sagnia, the former GRTS Director General and Chair of the Standing Committee on Beauty Pageants and Movie Production who I was eagerly waiting to meet again in The Gambia and now, Jagana is also gone.

The late Ibrahima D.K. Jagana was de facto part of my extended family and I maintain productive memories of him and my late father. Jagana was a fine upright man, community organizer and genuine patriot. When I expressed my interest in serving The Gambian State in the Public Sector/Civil Service for ten (10) years, I used Ebrima D.K. Jagana as the role model for convincing my people, especially my late lovely paternal grandmother who told me working for a salary or monthly pay cheque is not part of my „heritage“ as I „do not belong to the working class!“ I would laugh!

Since leaving The Gambia I communicated with Ba Ebrima D.K. Jagana through Skype and during one of my trips to Africa he asked why I did not pay him a visit to his locations  inLomé, Togo or Abuja, Nigeria. I promised to visit him  in due course  like a good son.

The news of his demise in that Lagos plane crash of Sunday 03 June 2012 is a rude shocker that mixes up my reunion with him.  Now the only way I can complete this visit is by meeting his children, my brothers and sisters and, the other family members either in The Gambia, Togo, Nigeria or USA as feasible.

To my extended Jagana family at home and abroad, the Sumpu Do XaatiSarahulleh Community Association and everybody else, I say MAAREMU, KANLEN NTA SERE TOX’O. ARINA BA JAGANA RONDI FIRDAUSI DI.

KULU NAFSI ZAIQATUL MAWT (every soul shall have a taste of death)... Qur’an 29:57.
