The West Coast Region’s regional Red Cross Branch, as part of their activities in equipping its members on decision making at the regional level, schools, and village levels for efficient implantations of policies and programmes for the overall development of Red Cross movement in The Gambia, will commence a week-long summer camp at Yalding Nursery and Primary School in Farato, Kombo South District, from the 26 August to September 1.

Pa Camara, a member of the organizing committee, in an interview with Youth Platform, said that based on the ideology of achieving collective goals, the central link committee of the WCR Red Cross through its members who thought it necessary to hold a week- long summer camp for 50 participants is to build the capacity of the participants during the camp, saying that leadership and management skills are the main focus of these youths empowerment initiative and its home -base links respectively.

“As volunteers, our role is to extend a supporting hand to the communities as Red Cross is all about charitable work,” he said.

According to Camara, empowering the young people only encourages development, unity and understanding, noting that the Red Cross has been providing communal services to the communities in order to empower the young people who are agents of change.

“This camp would equip the young volunteers on leadership and management skills, as well as public speaking confidence as the camp is geared towards promoting their talents,” he said.

It will also enable the participants to share awareness, skills, ideas and discuss issues confronting them in their respective areas, and look on modalities in mapping them out for the common good of the young people, calling on them to participate fully during the entire period of the camp as they are opportune enough to be part of it while there are many others who could not be part of the camp.
