The West Coast Region Red Cross-link volunteers have officially observed the start of a   week-long youth summer camp on leadership and management at Yalding, Farato, and Kombo South district.

This year’s leadership camp has the theme: “Youth On The Move”.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr.  Matarr Saidykhan, link-chair person, who doubles as the camp director, stated that the summer camp was meant to build the capacity of the volunteers.

According to him, no meaningful development could be observed in the absence of capacity building.

He seized the opportunity to send a piece of advice to the camp participants. “Take this training seriously, as you are going to be the next leaders,” he told them.

He further challenged both the camp facilitators and participants to always work collectively in the interest of the organization.

In his remarks, Lamin Fatty, Branch Secretary, West Coast Region Red Cross-Link,  praised the organizing committee for their timely initiative, noting that the training would go a long way to enhance the skills of the participants.

He further challenged the camp organizers to implement mechanisms that would evaluate participants by the end of the training, measuring how much was absorbed from the lectures before they are issued certificates. Ebrima Bojang, a senior Red Cross volunteer in Brikama,   also advised the participants to take the training seriously.

Lamin Kujabi, Area Youth Representative for West Coast Region, emphasized the need for continued training for volunteers, as it would greatly help them during the cause of their work.

A short drama was played on the occasion depicting good leadership qualities by the social committee of the camp.
