Women Empowerment Upholds National Development, Says Africa Bee Course AdministratorMonday, May 07, 2012 The Acting Programme Manager of Africa Bee Course, Mrs. Njibay Bah-Jobe, has said that empowering women in any sector of development only upholds national growth. In a recent interview with The Daily News, Madam Bah-Jobe said since women are those responsible for the welfare of families, their role towards national development cannot be overemphasized, noting that it will be vital for them to be given all the opportunities to contribute in the socio-economic expansion of the country. “The Gambian women are doing all their best to promote the welfare of their families, as they, in most cases, take care of many domestic issues,” adding that more room must be created for women in order for them to focus in the promotion of their families as well as the nation. “But I am very surprise to see a lower women participation in the bee keeping training,’’ She said. According to her, Africa Bee course policy is to promote bee keeping in the country in which Gambian women are key targets, calling on organisations to include women groups in their activities if they want more development to take place. She further said that since the larger population are women, their stand towards national development is seen by all as they have achieve a lot in their different areas across the country. The government of the day which attaches a lot of importance to women empowerment under the guidance of President Jammeh needs approval, as women are given a lot of positions to administer, ranging from ministerial and other top positions. “ We all have a role to play but women play a lot in the promotion of peace, unity and oneness which development cannot take place in the absence of these,’’ she noted. She also applauded Kombo Foni Forestry Association (KOMFFORA), UNDP and Africa Bee Course for organising such a training that is geared for income generating purposes.
