Youth Care Foundation Holds 2011 Summer Class

The 2011 Summer Mathematics Program (SMP) organised by the Youth Care Foundation on Monday August 8 kicked off at the foundation’s center in Tallinding. The theme for this year’s event is: Discovery 2011:
The annual event, which took the form of match pass from the Youth Care Foundation Office to DHL office in Kanifing seeks to promote the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in Gambia.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the project manager Mr Babatunde Olusola underscored the importance of the project.
 “Youth Volunteerism for Development is an intensive summer experience designed to encourage and motivate grade nine (9) and grade twelve (12) students to discover mathematic,” he said.
“During this four Weeks summer classes, student will be immersed in the globe of mathematics discovery.’’
According to him, sixteen schools were recommended by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) whiles five (5) schools were recommended by YCF in Region 2 to participate in the programme.   
Mr Louis Mahoney, Operations Manager DHL applauded YCF for their foresight.  However, he noted that there cannot be any meaningful development without acquiring the basic knowledge from the two important subjects
Saja Sambou, Human Resources and Public Affairs Officer of GAMBEGA also re-iterated similar remarks. The summer class was sponsored by DHL and Coca-Cola.
