Youth Officer Tasks Young People![]() Wednesday, August 24, 2011 The Child and Youth Officer of Saamasang Federation Mr. Amadou Tambedou has urged the young people of the West Coast Region to venture into meaningful developments rather than engaging into issues that will not yield any progress. In an exclusive interview with the Youth Platform, Tambedou who is into bakery, said he decided to create the business in order to empower the young people as well as to provide an opportunity for them to become responsible in their communities. He affirmed that his vision and mission as a youth officer is to give power to the young people in order for them to take the lead role in their own development initiatives as agents of change who will soon be handed the baton of leadership to steer the affairs of their communities. ‘’I believe in empowering young people than creating opportunities that will not last long, ’’ he said. According to him, his organisation main wish is to empower the young people through skills trainings, a greater youth and child participation in the development and the promotion of their lives as well as taking the lead in all their activities without any interference. He noted that in order for any nation to boost of development, peace, stability and progress, the young population must first be given the chance to take part in the growth of their countries. ‘’ I also in the same vein urged you the young people to have in mind that you have a great role to play in the promotion of the above mention.’’ He further emphasised the need for a greater and effective collaboration between the young people and the government, stakeholders, the National Youth Council and other agencies working with youth population as this will in no doubt foster more unity and collaboration as partners in development taken Child-Fund The Gambia and Saamasang as examples. He urged young people to continue contributing their part in the development of the district and the country at large noting that without their participation, the country will not achieve the vision 2020 target.
